Helen Clabby Heenan, affectionately known as Nana to her eighteen grandchildren, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1906. Married to Walter Heenan around 1928, she bore four children before Walter's tragic and untimely death at the age of 28. Nana did what she could, and whatever she had to, in order to keep her family together and raise her children. She got a job with the Brooklyn Manhatten Transit System.
She lived most of her life in the Woodhaven area of Queens, New York and eventually purchased her own house on 89th Street in Woodhaven.
Nana's house was the center of family life throughout the 1960's and into the 1970's with regular, and lively, family gatherings that included all the children, and grandchildren, and second cousins, and anyone else somehow related to the Clabby's.
