Patrick Snee was born in Tubbercurry (also spelled Tobercurry), Co. Sligo in the northwest part of Ireland. Raised in a two-room, thatched roof stone cottage, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 19. He arrived at Ellis Island in New York via the ship Kaiserin Auguste Victoria on June 5, 1920 having departed from Queenstown, Cork in the province of Munster Ireland. Family legend has it that he was forced to leave Ireland because he had a price on his head -- apparently because of the Republican struggle. He was an accomplished Gaelic Football player and was the captain of the Sligo team in New York.
